Q:
Where are Eyelash Vipers
From?
a: Eyelash Vipers are
found in Central and South
America. Their range extends
from southern Mexico to
northern South American
in Colombia and Venezuela.
Q:
How Venomous are Eyelash Vipers?
a: Eyelash Vipers are
an extremely venomous snake
species. They are a very
small viper species and
can strike extremely fast.
They should only be kept
by highly experienced snake
keepers or zoo's and educational
institutions.
Q:
Are
they easy to keep in captivity?
a:
Eyelash Vipers can do very
well in captivity. If you
are looking to acquire one
we highly recommend purchasing
a captive bred snake. Keep
in mind that many States
and Provinces require you
to have a venomous snake
license or permit in order
to lawfully keep this species
in captivity. It is also
highly recommended to have
anti-venom on hand just
in case you are ever bitten.
Q:
What do Eyelash Vipers Eat?
a: Juvenile Eyelash
Vipers will feed on a small
pinky mouse about once per
week. Adults should be fed
an appropriately sized prey
item (adult mouse or medium
sized mouse) about every
two weeks.
Q:
What items will I need to purchase
to house a snake comfortably?
a: Before purchasing
a snake from a respected
snake shop we highly recommend
reading about the species
and learning if it will
be right for you. Our Eyelash
Viper Care Guide is the
perfect start and even includes
handy plans for building
a custom professional looking
display enclosure for your
snake. Along with this information
the main items you will
need are: Information, a
suitably sized enclosure,
a water dish, suitable substrate
for the enclosure, a hiding
area within the enclosure
(that your snake can completely
fit inside), a reptile light
source, under tank heater
(if necessary), a temperature
gauge, and feeding
hemostats. Since the Eyelash
Viper is a highly venomous
species we recommend that
your tank is lockable and
completely escape proof.
It is also highly recommended
that you do not ever handle
this species. |
